Walnut Blasing

Walnut Blasting

Over time, carbon deposits build up inside your engine, particularly on the intake valves, intake manifold, and combustion chambers. This can negatively impact engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions. This process is accelerated with modern engines using exhaust gas re-circulation valves (EGR’s) to improve emissions.

Modern direct injection engines are especially prone to carbon buildup since fuel is injected directly into the cylinders, bypassing the intake valves where traditional fuel spray would help keep them clean. Without proper maintenance, this can lead to:

  • Reduced engine performance
  • Lower fuel efficiency
  • Rough idling and misfires
  • Increased emissions

To restore your engine’s efficiency and performance, professional carbon cleaning is essential.

Diesel Particulate (DPF) Cleaning

If you ignore a DPF warning light and keep driving in a relatively steady, stop/start, short journey pattern, soot will build up in the filter until your car goes into ‘restricted performance mode’ to prevent damage.

If this happens:

  • Driving at speed alone won’t be enough.
  • We may need to do a manual or ‘forced’ filter regeneration.
  • In extreme cases the DPF filter may need to be replaced.

In most cases there’s only a short time between the DPF being partially blocked and it getting so blocked it needs a manual regeneration.

If there’s a fault with the DPF or the pressure sensor, which lets your car know the DPF’s status, the engine management light will illuminate.

Normal regeneration may fail in the case of:

  • Frequent short journeys where the engine doesn’t get hot enough.
  • The wrong type of Engine Oil
  • A problem with the fuel system or Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) causing excess soot.
  • A warning light on the dash or a diagnostic warning code stored in the engine management system.
  • Neglected Servicing.
  • The Eolys additive level getting low in the tank.
  • Low fuel level. Generally less than a quarter of a tank of fuel will prevent active regeneration taking place.
